On March 19-21 a public art display of chalk drawings will cover the sidewalks in Hyde Park Village. The Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts is inviting local and professional artists, as well as individuals, families and companies to participate. Prizes totaling $1,250 will be given for best drawings. The Chalk Walk will draw people to Hyde Park Village to enjoy art and to help celebrate the local arts community.

Event timeline:-
Thursday, March 19: Artists begin work at 9 a.m. in Hyde Park Village’s Village Circle; evening includes ‘Chalk Tail’ party featuring music from the Urban Gypsies from 7 to 9 p.m., beer and wine specials from Blue Moon and Mad Housewife Wine from 6-10 p.m.

Friday, March 20: Artists continue work 9 to 7:40 p.m., beer and wine special from 6-10 p.m. Live entertainment by Scott Tyler from 7 to 10 p.m. Vendors and open-air market featured as well.

Saturday, March 21: Family-friendly vendors and entertainment from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
Face-painting and chalk drawing for kids
Fairly Lane Fairies featured at 2:30 p.m.
Chalk drawing experience for physically challenged
Live music from Blake High School Jazz Band from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Artist prizes awarded at 1:30 p.m.
Performances from the 2008-2009 High School Art Star Scholarship recipients from 2-3 p.m.

A silent auction will take place all three days, closing at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Items include gift cards from Ocean Prime and The Wine Exchange; Chalk Board illustrations from featured chalk artist, Lee Jones; framed prints by Georgia O' Keefe; framed photograph by Larraine Genovar; framed art by Rebecca Sexton Larson, etc.

Free ‘Chalk Walk’ festival to take place in Hyde Park
--Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts hosts free public art event, March 19-21--

TAMPA, Fla. (February 20, 2009) -- Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts has finalized plans to host its inaugural Chalk Walk, a public art display of chalk drawings that will cover sidewalks in Tampa’s Hyde Park Village from March 19 to 21. Cash prizes totaling $1,250 will be awarded for the best drawings. Both professional and amateur artists will participate, with prizes awarded to each.

Applications to participate as an artist (either amateur or professional, and either chalk on sidewalk or plein aire) are still being accepted. Deadline to apply is Friday, February 27 (contact Christina Cook, christina.cook@tbbca.org, for an application).
