--Local nonprofit helps to cultivate local students’ artistic abilities--
TAMPA, Fla. (July, 2008) -- The Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts (BCA) has extended the deadline for $15,000 in arts scholarships to September 2, 2008. The TBBCA is proud to host their second annual High School Art Stars Scholarship Program to promote and enhance a healthy cultural presence in our community both by encouraging local students to continue building upon their artistic skills and by fostering development of future arts audiences.
Six, $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to Bay area senior high school students in the areas of theatre, dance, literature, visual arts, instrumental music and vocal music. Scholarships can be used at a college, university, or toward continuing education in the arts. Recipients will be announced in October.
The applications will be judged by the best in their industry. The jurors include dance: Cynthia Hennessy with Moving Current; instrumental music: Richard Sparrow with The Florida Orchestra; vocal music: Richard Zielinski with The Master Chorale; literature: Michael Connelly, a nationally acclaimed mystery novelist; theatre: Anna Brennen with Stageworks; and visual arts: Michael Murphy with Gallery M.
