Connecting People In and Around Tampa with Local Awesomeness

We need to put together our collective wisdom and create a guide to the best Cuban joints around town.

La Tropicana on 7th Ave and 18th St. in Ybor. I go for cafe con leche, cuban toast and people watching (the tables of regulars who've been going to La Tropicana every day for decades). It's a great neighborhood spot. My last visit I forgot cash (no credit cards accepted) and the guy at the cash register was super nice about it. I tried to leave something of value to prove I'd come back and pay he wouldn't hear of it. And then when I did come back he winked at me and wouldn't take my money - said that one was on him. That built customer loyalty in me for life!

i thought, "i should start one about the best cuban restaurants".
but i should have known - here it is already!

Pipo's & Son Cafeteria, 7233 W Hillsborough Ave, Tampa (813)882-0184
i've been going to this place for years

Las Margaritas on Hillsborough is good. The name implies it's Mexican, but it's cuban.

Not sure if you saw the story, but I did a thing for TBOExtra.com on how changes in diplomacy toward Cuba might affect the popularity of Cuban food. Focus of the story was a Cuban restaurant that just opened in Orlando.

Story had a Google map of Cuban restaurants in Tampa.
