In conjunction with the City of Tampa's CleanDay activities, we (volunteers) are cleaning up the local area of N. Franklin and Kay Streets with the Tampa Heights Youth Civic Association, and also going to be planning the community garden at N. Frank…
It will be interesting to see who shows up. I am unable to go due to work,..if someone else is going may I draft you to take some notes for me and ask a few questions? I would be most appreciative!!!
What neighborhood do you live in, why did you choose it and what do you like about it?
I chose Palma Ceia so that my sister could attend Plant High School. It looks as if we'll be moving to Davis Islands soon, so that we stay in the district but we can pay less rent. Davis Islands is nice because it's such a contained community, but remains unhomogenized.
If you were to move to a different neighborhood, what would it be and why?
I want to live in Tampa Heights. I love the nooks and crannies that can be found in the winding brick streets. I love the quaint antiquity, the old homes and ancient trees. The community is also very active and friendly. They make the effort to show their love of where they live. I also would like to live nearer my shop and not drive anymore- although I'd still have to go to the market!
What is your favorite thing about Tampa?
Everyone knows each other. It can make for an interesting place to be. At the same time, it also enables a quick relay of information. It doesn't take that much effort to get yourself involved!
What kinds of things are you involved in?
I like to think I am involved in the pursuit of creating a Tampa that is more enjoyable to more people, most especially myself. As my alter-ego Luce Gearz #5150, I play blocker and pivot for the Cigar City Mafia, two year champion team of the state champion league, The Tampa Bay Derby Darlins'. I am in a book club, too.
Tell us about what you do.
I co-own a coffeeshop/cafe in Tampa Heights. This means that I am head dishwasher, muffin maker, grocery shopper and am usually thinking of about 20 things that need to get done at once,..and attempting to do them all at once.
If you live in Tampa, Why do you stay?
I liken opening my shop to "having a child". I don't intend to abandon it.
Where else have you lived?
Annapolis, MD; Savannah,GA; NYC

OPEN AUDITIONS:
Ellen Mueller is seeking physical and improvisational performers of all types for two free collaborative workshops exploring the concepts of success and evaluation.
About the Workshops and Ellen Mueller:
These two free workshops will be led by Ellen Mueller at the University of South Florida Marshall Student Center, February 28 & March 1, Noon – 4:00pm, and April 4 & 5, Noon - 4:00pm. The approach for these workshops is based on techniques gleaned from yoga, the Brave New Institute – an improvisation training center in Minneapolis, MN, the Theatre of the Emerging American Moment – a theatre company dedicated to dissecting and celebrating the experience of living in America today, and Viewpoints – a technique for building ensembles and creating movement. Specifically, we will explore our collective response to the concepts of success and evaluation. Our goal is to gather and develop images, ideas, questions, situations, and characters through the practice of movement and improvisational exercises. Participants can expect to learn about the Eight Secrets of BNW Creativity, as well as an approach to collaborative creation. The material collected will be used as research for new performance works, and may lead to future collaborations with workshop participants.
Ellen Mueller was raised in Fargo, ND and currently lives and works in Tampa, FL. She received a BA in Theatre and Art, and a BS in Design Technology from Bemidji State University. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Studio Art with emphasis on performance at University of South Florida. For more information about recent projects, please visit EllenMueller.com
