Profile Information

If you live in Tampa Bay, Why are you here?
It's a long story that starts with attending a Hindu wedding in India in the summer of 1997 and ends with seeing abundant opportunities to make a difference in our community.
How long have you lived here?
since the summer of 1998
What neighborhood do you live in, why did you choose it and what do you like about it?
I live where the river meets the bay, on the border of Downtown and Hyde Park in a hi-rise on Bayshore. I moved here from NY and wanted to recreate the experience of living in the city as closely as possible - however here I got not just one bedroom but two and a doorman (back in NY I lived in a 300 sq ft studio). I love being on Bayshore - it's one of the most beautiful streets I've ever seen and I like the location - I'm downtown in minutes and everything else I do is within a 15 minute drive.
If you were to move to a different neighborhood, what would it be and why?
More central downtown or Ybor so I had more places to walk to.
What is your favorite thing about Tampa?
The people, the weather, the water, the history and the opportunity to really make a difference.
What kinds of things are you involved in?
I'm passionate about urban revitalization - livable cities, wide sidewalks, livability, thoughtful placemaking - I could go on and on and on... My background is in the arts and I attend a variety art and cultural events. I enjoy being a part of lots of different things happening in the community. Krewe of Venus - Queen Venus XXXVIII.
Tell us about what you do.
I speak on and consult with businesses about social media marketing, digital marketing, innovating on communication and outreach. Basically I have a lot of fun and have turned my passion for cities and community building into a full-time job. http://www.juliagorzka.com

I founded Brand Tampa and believe we can be a model in community building, civic engagement, citizen empowerment and mobilization to collaborate from the bottom-up and literally brand our city and region for all the awesomeness each of knows individually, but we don't know collectively. I want to put Tampa and our region on the map as one of the most livable, interesting and welcoming places to live in the country. I want a more walkable city, more locally-owned biz and greater awareness of our assets including what we don't have yet because to me that's where opportunities lie and that's what can attract ambitious, bright and energetic people to our city and region. The opportunity to start something.

I describe Tampa as a city where there is tons going on - it's just not obvious. You have to dig to find it. So I've made it my job to make the invisible visible. And the cool thing about this is no one gave me the authority to do it, I just want to make it happen.

Ybor City Stories - an audio tour led by some of Ybor's most infamous ghosts and narrated by James Tokley, poet laureate of the City of Tampa. www.yborcityghostwalk.com
If you live in Tampa, Why do you stay?
It grew on me. Took a long time but now I love Tampa. And I love being near my family. We're neighbors :)
Where else have you lived?
Born in Buffalo, NY
Raised in Northport, NY (Long Island)
New Orleans
Florence, Italy
London, England
Manhattan
What kinds of things are you interested in seeing on Brand Tampa?
Interesting people, ideas and conversations. Citizens collaborating on cool stuff. Inspiration. New places to eat and shop local. A definitive list of Tampa's best make-out spots.

Please join Liberty Manor for this Celebration, as we honor our veterans who made personal sacrifices on behalf of our great country. Come meet the hero’s and express your appreciation for their commitment. Thanks, Julia. Yes, PCCH is working on amping up its communications strategies. I really appreciate the great work you've been doing with the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough. I'm sorry to have to admit that I'm not as familiar with Pasco's coalition as I would like to be. Sounds like an interesting conversation... Thanks for all you do for the community! --Daphne

Hi Julia: Yes I am now working with the Quorum and was a part of last night's event. I can't take the credit for the logistics of the event though - that was all the Quorum and MMD Events. They did an amazing job. I am starting to help them out with public relations activities. Looking forward to doing more with you and Brand Tampa. Thanks! Diane
