Profile Information

If you live in Tampa Bay, Why are you here?
@ Brand Tampa, or why am I in Tampa Bay?
How long have you lived here?
14 years
What neighborhood do you live in, why did you choose it and what do you like about it?
I live in beautiful historic Old Seminole Heights. I gloriously stumbled upon this gem in the heart of the city, 13 years ago when I lived in Temple Terrace. I fell in love with Seminole Heights, and bought my first home - 1918 bungalow, in need of repair and love. We have been through so much, as I try to authentically restore her, and return all the gorgeous, original architectural features that had been so thoughtlessly torn out/discarded over the years.
I LOVE Seminole Heights! I am relentless in positively extolling its virtues, foremost of which is that it is a COMMUNITY- a friendly, laid back neighborhood, where you are truly welcome to "come as you are"- be yourself.

My neighbors are my friends- we are incredibly close and spend a lot of time together. Seminole Heights really conjures up that gut feeling, "Ah. I am HOME!"
Other highlights:
-A gorgeous Oak tree canopy that shelters us, extending its green embrace, and shading our red brick streets
- People are kind, compassionate and connected; great love of animals - kids are becoming a more common sight as well! (lol!)
- Parks! lots of gorgeous, functional pocket parks- GREEN
- A community garden
- Awesome independent mom-n-pop businesses
- A River Runs Through It! Relax at one of three public parks on the Hillsborough River in Seminole Heights
- Largest, most contributing historic properties neighborhood in Tampa- SH has three separate neighborhood associations, due to its sheer size
- That my community stayed intact, and revitalized, even after a major intersate highway was rammed through the middle of it

It is authentic; and in being so, has brought that to my life.
If you were to move to a different neighborhood, what would it be and why?
not sure what it would be, but the "why" would be because I had left Tampa. There is nowhere else in Tampa Bay that I would choose to live.
What is your favorite thing about Tampa?
HISTORY! So much of it, so rich and varied, and sadly so few seem to know it- for when they learn it, they begin to see the area in a new light, and take pride in their community. Without understanding where you came from, it's difficult to be rooted, and to help positively direct where you are heading...

I really LOVE Ybor City too! Another historic gem, with a story that is so rich, beautiful, and full of SABOR! Visit the Ybor History Museum if you have not done so- immerse yourself in the stories of this unique community. Stroll all its streets, and feel history come alive.

Please ride the trolley too. How I wish we could expand the trolley service (real trolley- in road rail) to the urban corridor neighborhoods. Downtown would immediately benefit- and could become more than a central business district (a major grocery store stepping up and creatively adapting and using an old building downtown would be critical as well)

These aren't pie-in-sky dreams- they are easily visualized scenarios, for what could become and should be, Tampa's reality.
What kinds of things are you involved in?
interactive marketing, digital media, next-generation Web, development, historic preservation, bungalow living
Tell us about what you do.
Technology Marketing Expert- Online Marketing, Interactive Media and Social Media
If you live in Tampa, Why do you stay?
Tampa has become my "hometown". I am vested in this community, and one of my greatest achievements is having been a founder of Save Our Tower, a grassroots movement that led to the River Tower Park, 14 acres of green in the urban corridor, and preserved the Sulphur Springs Water Tower. The tower is a truly unique treasure and historic landmark- it is one of two such structures left in the state of Florida, and one of only 10 left nationally. I am humbled, and touched to the core, by the many people who supported me, and our group, and just blown away to know I was a part of such an amazing experience. Everyone should find something that stirs them so passionately- it is an amazing gift in life.
Where else have you lived?
Florida- Miami (born & raised), Gainesville, Plantation, Merritt Island
Spain- Salamanca
Texas- Clute
What kinds of things are you interested in seeing on Brand Tampa?
Well, clearly, I would love to see info about historic preservation, and opportunities to inform others about our local history. Interested in meeting new people, extending my circle of friends. I would like to see this online community create BUZZ at a much larger scale- across the online environment, and recognized offline by the nation! :)

King Corona is the first place I stopped to have a cigar and a double espresso and got hooked. You can find me there on some afternoons and warm nights sitting outside enjoying the ambiance and the never ending street entertainment. Right now I have been hanging at the Tampa Humidor mainly for price and location but King Corona is #1 as I would rather be sitting outside anytime.

So you are a history enthusiast. My family and I are too. This summer we have visited the archeological digs in Osprey, Fl and Crystal River. Florida is certainly history rich. God bless you.
