Dance Ybor Series Begins in January
Faye Driscoll Dance - 837 Venice Boulevard. Hillsborough Community College, School of Visual and Performing Arts will kick off its annual Dance Ybor series with New York choreographer Faye Driscoll’s highly acclaimed dance theatre work entitled 837 Venice Boulevard.

The piece will be presented on January 28, 29, and 30th, 2010 at 7:30 pm in the Mainstage Theatre of the Ybor City Campus Performing Arts Building.

In 837 Venice Boulevard (named "one of the top 5 dance shows of 2008" by the New York Times), Driscoll revisits her childhood while examining the construct of identity and how we blame the world for our problems. The act of looking to her childhood for answers became a metaphor for the human compulsion to place blame -- whether with parents, lovers, society, or ourselves. This dance theater piece uses text and song generated in collaboration with the three performers, who throughout the work manipulate each other like puppets, poking fun at how we are all constantly telegraphing who we are, based on who we think other people perceive us to be. Using physical manipulation and humor, 837 Venice Boulevard paints the lonesome emotional landscape of a neglected kid left to her own fantasies and fears, while exploring universal themes of identity, blame, and how exhausting it is to have to “be somebody" all the time.Additional company information and artist’s biographies can be found at the Faye Driscoll’s website at: http://www.fayedriscoll.com

Tickets for Faye Driscoll are $10 General Admission. Tickets are available at the door the evening of the performance. To reserve tickets in advance you can email our box office at artstix@hccfl.edu
Performances are Free to HCC Faculty, Staff and Students (with ID)
