BOA Sunset Cinema Series & TMA's Opening with a FREE MOVIE in the Park
The Bank of America's Sunset Cinema
celebrates the Tampa Museum of Art opening with a free movie at the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park this Saturday, February 6 at 6:30pm (gates open at 4:30pm).

Bank of America’s Sunset Cinema, Tampa Theatre’s traveling outdoor picture show, celebrates the opening of the new Tampa Museum of Art with a free outdoor movie, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM next to the new Museum of Art on Saturday, February 6 at 6:30pm in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Come early to explore the new The Tampa Museum of Art (for Grand Opening details activities and admission prices, visit www.tampamuseum.org.)

Bank of America’s Sunset Cinema brings free, large-scale, family-friendly outdoor movie screenings to neighborhoods throughout the area. Since 2008, over 10,000 people have attended eight free Sunset Cinema events in public parks. Tampa Theatre produces the events using a giant 45-foot inflatable screen and high-definition high-intensity digital projectors. Admission is always free.

Guests picnic, play Frisbee, listen to music and enjoy the evening in a safe, relaxed atmosphere two hours prior to the start of the movie. Guests are invited to bring blankets, pillows, backrests, low-profile beach chairs and picnic baskets. For a complete FAQ, last minute updates and schedule information, visit available on the Theatre’s website at www.tampatheatre.org/sunsetcinema.php

Tampa Theatre offers “Cinema Snacks” for sale including popcorn, soft drinks, bottled water, candy and select Tampa Theatre souvenirs. Due to park restrictions, alcoholic beverages, plastic tarps, and tables are not permitted.

”Tampa Theatre is proud to bring free, family-friendly entertainment to our neighborhoods. During tough economic times like these, it’s doubly important,” said John Bell, Tampa Theatre President and C.E.O. “We are grateful to our sponsors for supporting this program so that we can bring free film experiences to beautiful settings in our City and County. Since 1926, people have been traveling downtown to watch movies under Tampa Theatre’s simulated stars. Now we are able to bring movies to Tampa neighborhoods so people can gather to watch movies under the real stars.”

Night at the Museum: Ben Stiller leads an all-star cast including Robin Williams and Dick Van Dyke in this hilarious blockbuster hit. When good-hearted dreamer Larry Daley (Stiller) is hired as night watchman at the Museum of Natural History, he soon discovers that an ancient curse brings all the exhibits to life after the sun sets. Suddenly, Larry finds himself face-to-face with a frisky T. Rex skeleton, tiny armies of Romans and cowboys and a mischievous monkey who taunts him to the breaking point. But with the help of President Teddy Roosevelt (Williams), Larry may just figure out a way to control the chaos and become a hero in his son's eyes. Boasting jaw-dropping special effects and laugh-out-loud moments, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM is your ticket to nonstop fun.

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM is rated PG and runs 1 hour and 45 minutes

Sunset Cinema is sponsored by Bank of America, New Magic 94.9, The St. Petersburg Times, tbt* Tampa Bay Times, Grown Man Brand, Tampa Bay Parenting Magazine, The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation, and Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation.

Concerts This Weekend

WMNF Presents Todd Snider Friday February 5th
The Excitement Plan, Snider's latest long player, features a laid- back groove and its top- shelf lyrics are being called Snider's best work yet. "This music is sorta JJ Cale meets Jerry Jeff Walker sounding with words that would hopefully impress Shel Silverstein, Bobby Bare, Chuck Berry, Kris Kristofferson or Randy Newman,” Snider says. With his contributions of stellar guitar, piano and harmonica, his musicianship shares the spotlight as easily as his treasured lyrics. Snider is a vociferous musician whose fans know him to be quite the workhorse. His acclaimed 2006 release, The Devil You Know found the barefoot troubadour performing live on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman and the CD appeared on numerous year-end Top 10 lists including Spin, Blender and Rolling Stone. More recently, last year’s Peace Queer EP--a concept record featuring all the peace, love and anarchy Snider is known for--inspired Blender to say he “morphed from a wisecracking country-ish journeyman to the sharpest and funniest protest singer working today." The EP spent five weeks at number one on the Americana chart and Spin Magazine dubbed him, "One of roots music's slyest, smartest songwriters." http://www.toddsnider.net/

Opening is Jacksonville native Rebecca Zapen, a recent transplant to St. Petersburg, has been playing guitar, violin and ukulele since childhood, when her musical parents played plenty of classical tunes around the house. Her most recent album, Japanese Bathhouse, was inspired by -- you guessed it -- a Japanese bathhouse, and is full of quirky, jazzy ditties that sound like exquisite little snippets of an indie-film soundtrack. www.zapen.com/

Doors open at 6:00p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
