We have started something big. People from over
100 cities around the world from
Beijing to
Mumbai and from
Atlanta to
Dubai will be celebrating with swarms, special and events. It's all a result of a grassroots effort started among our local social media community just three weeks ago. And now Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio has officially proclaimed April 16 is “Foursquare Day!” Tampa Bay be proud!
Have you seen
the map yet? Businesses all over the world are joining the fun and offering specials thought the day. Restaurants, bars, and of course, Optometrists are offering special discounts and savings for Foursquare users who check-in. Check out the growing list of events and specials in
Tampa,
St. Petersburg, and
Clearwater. If you don’t see your favorite venue please let them about Foursquare Day and invite them to participate. It's an opportunity for literally any and every business owner to
promote their business for free.

Puzzle Hunt. Individuals participating on 4/16 will go to participating businesses, ask for a puzzle piece, and try to build a complete set of four unique pieces. Those who collect the complete set, tweet a picture with the #4sqday hashtag and bring all four pieces to the Tampa SWARM will be entered into the drawing for t-shirts and other awesome prizes to be given out that night.
In the evening, join us for the free
Tampa Foursquare Day Swarm. This is going to be one social media party you don’t want to miss. There will be free WIFI, free appetizers, food and drink specials, tons of awesome prizes, and great people. There will also be photographers, journalists, videographers, bloggers and podcasters all in attendance to share our night with the world!
We are going for the very rare Super Swarm Foursquare badge, and we are in head to head challenges with both
New York City and
Pittsburgh. Make us proud, Tampa Bay.
We’ll have Skype video calls and video stream from all over the world, and displays of the tweetstream. If you are not sure about all that stuff, then this is a FUN, easy way to learn how social media can benefit you and your business. You don't have to be a Foursquare user or even begin to understand what this is all about. Come and we'll explain it to you. We're a pretty friendly bunch. The Girls in Tech Tampa team will be on hand to answer questions and provide assistance and there will be numerous business owners who have benefited from social media such as foursquare in attendance to talk about their experience.
